End of Summer - A Look Back On Our Memories of Summer '16

And that’s a wrap! Orientation is finally over and our newest batch of students are ready to start the school year (and so are the upper year students).  As the summer comes to an end, we’d like to take you down memory lane of the eventful four months we had planning and executing Arts 2016 Enrollment Workshops and Orientation!

It started with the Team That Made the Dream, the crew of three: Avala, Marzia & Olivia, who came together to put on all our summer events. This team worked tirelessly all summer to create the orientation experience for the Faculty of Arts.

But even the dream team couldn't have done it without our dedicated and lifesaving volunteers. These volunteers spent the summer coming out to socials, training, helping put together the pieces for Orientation, welcoming students at Enrollment, creating energy and vibes at Orientation, and that's only the short list - there was so much more. We love our volunteers and we'd like to thank each and every one for the amount of hard work, energy and pride they put into this event. Couldn't have done it without you - so let's go through some of our favorite memories:

Our first Volunteer Social, when we went to play some pool and got to know each other:

The Course Union Board Competition, where course unions came out create masterpieces for their boards.

And all the help they provided.

Overall they helped us create the amazing experience that was #ArtsCARNIVAL. That's right, this year's orientation theme was Carnival. The day included a fun filled line up of only the best. We started of the morning registration with speeches from our VP Students, our Dean and Interim Associate Dean and the President of the Ryerson Arts Society and some mini-activities. After this, students broke off and attended their program sessions led by their Program Administrators and Course Unions. After some great presentations and icebreakers, they came back to the Quad for some food truck lunches provided by Mama's Boys and Smoke's Poutinerie and enjoyed the rest of the carnival activities. Soundtrack of the afternoon was courtesy of our live bands - The Digs, Mayraki and The Cheap Flights. Students were able to choose from an array of activities which included a dunk tank, inflatable jousting, body painting, a rest station, a sack race, tug o war and more! After an exciting afternoon, the students were led to the 2016 Faculty of Arts Meet N' Greet - where students had the opportunity to interact and mingle with their professors in a less formal setting than a classroom. It was also here that we presented the Faculty of Arts 2016 Goosie's Awards - as the volunteers and incoming students participated in the Goosechase scavenger hunt all summer. Check out the day:
